How do I set up FoxTime? Open the app, grant Screen Time access when asked, choose which apps to guard, and set a daily limit or rest schedule. You can run it on one device (solo) or control your child's phone from your own using a family code.
Screen Time access shows "off" even though it's on. Reopen FoxTime once — it re-checks access on every launch. If it still shows off, go to iOS Settings → Screen Time and make sure it's enabled, then reopen FoxTime.
How does the timer work? Guarded apps stay locked until your child taps Play. Then a countdown runs on the clock for the remaining daily budget. When it reaches zero, apps lock again until tomorrow. Tapping "Pause & save time" banks the unused minutes for later.
The timer says "not set up yet". The daily limit needs at least one app or category chosen so iOS knows what to guard. On the child's phone: tap the 🔒 lock → Parent settings → pick apps (or "All Apps & Categories" for the whole phone).
My child asked for more time. When the budget is used up, your child can tap "Ask for more time". You'll get a notification and can grant extra minutes with one tap from your phone.
How do rest schedules work? Add windows (like bedtime or school) and choose which days they repeat. During a window, the chosen apps — or the whole phone — take a break automatically.
What are app groups? Group apps like "Games" or "Social" so a schedule or limit can target just that group. Groups are created on the child's phone, where the apps are actually picked.
Homework and vacation modes? Homework mode blocks everything except your study allowlist until it ends. Vacation mode suspends schedules and the limit for the day, then returns on its own.
Will I know if blocking stops working? Yes. FoxTime alerts you if Screen Time access is turned off, or if the app selection is lost on the child's device. You can also tap Ping this phone to confirm the child's device is live and protected.
Can my child bypass it? FoxTime uses Apple's Family Controls. For the strongest protection, set an iOS Screen Time passcode on the child's device (in iOS Settings → Screen Time) that only you know — this stops the settings from being changed.
What data do you collect? None that identifies your child. FoxTime is built on Apple Screen Time; app selections never leave the device. See our Privacy Policy.
Subscriptions & refunds. Any purchases are handled by Apple through your App Store account. Manage or cancel a subscription in iOS Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions. Refund requests are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
